FAQ ( Questions & Answers )

Questions regarding building tours, venue use, public lectures, etc. are summarized here. We hope this guide will help you have a pleasant time at Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan. Please check them before your visit.

Location

  • Location What is the nearest station and how long does it take to walk from there?

    Please use Ikebukuro Station or JR Mejiro Station of JR. Ikebukuro station of Tokyo Metro, Seibu Railway, or Tobu Railway. It is a 5-minute walk from the nearest exit from Ikebukuro Station, and a 7-minute walk from Mejiro Station.

    Station numbers: JR Ikebukuro JY13, JR Mejiro JY14, others JA12/JS21/SI01/M25/F09/Y09/TJ01

  • Location Is there any parking lot?

    There is no parking lot, so please use public transportation or a nearby parking lot.
    Please call in advance if you are a wheelchair user or a person with disabilities.
    If you are a facility user and need to use a car for loading/unloading, etc., please inform the staff in charge from the organizer as it is available by reservation only.

Building Tours 

  • Building Tours  Do I need the reservation for a tour?

    If your group is less than 10 people, no reservation is necessary.  Please check the available sightseeing or guided tour dates and visit us during accepting hours.

  • Building Tours  Can I make reservations for group sightseeing / tours?

    ◎Individuals and groups
    We accept reservations one month in advance for the events and sightseeing /tours for 10 or more people.  Please contact us by phone.

    ◎Travel agencies
    Please call us for more information.

  • Building Tours  How long does it take to tour the building?

    The estimated time is about 30 minutes.
    We do not have a specific route for the tour of the building, so please feel free to look around at your own pace. 

  • Building Tours  Is there anything on the calendar for the next month?

    The tour calendar shows the schedule for the next two weeks.
    Since the facility is also available for rent, tours may be suspended at short notice depending on the number of reservations.
    We recommend that you check again at the latest before your visit. 

  • Building Tours  Is there any day on weekends and holidays available for tours?

    Weekends and holidays are often reserved for weddings and are not available for tours. For this reason, the building is open about one day a month on designated “Holiday Tour Days”. Please refer to the Visits and Tours page. 

  • Building Tours  Can I pay for the tour fee with something other than cash? 

    We only accept cash.

  • Building Tours   Are there any discounts available for people with disabilities?

    There is no discount system.

  • Building Tours  Are there any explanations of the buildings in English?

    Explanations of the buildings are only available in Japanese.  Audio guides are available in various places in the building.

  • Building Tours  Can I use the Museum Gurutto Pass?

    The Gurutto Pass does not cover this facility. 

  • Building Tours  Can I tour the building before any concert?

    You can visit the facility on the dates and times that are available for sightseeing/tour.

  • Building Tours  Is there a place to take off my shoes inside the building?

    You can enter all the buildings with your shoes on.

  • Building Tours  Can I use the cafe?

    There is no café.  But there is a place where we serve tea and coffee, We have prepared a tour ticket that includes a coffee voucher so that you can take a break in a corner of the observation area.

  • Building Tours  Can I reserve a seat at the cafe?

    There is no reservation system for seats. If the venue is full, numbered tickets will be issued.

  • Building Tours  Can I have meal there?

    Meals are not provided. "Myonichikan Restaurant" is held as a seasonal event four times a year.

  • Building Tours  Can you tell me about any tourist attractions in the area? 

    Within walking distance are Zoshigaya Kishimojindo, which is also an ” Important Cultural Property” like Myonichikan.  There is Mejiro Garden, Zoshigaya Former Missionary House, and more.

Use of facilities

  • Use of facilities I would like to rent a room. Which page should I look at to check availability and make a reservation?

    Please call us to inquire about room availability or make reservations. We do not accept requests online. Please contact the sales section at TEL: 03-3971-7535.

  • Use of facilities Is there a lobby or waiting room?

    There is no waiting space at Myonichikan building, so please come according to reception hours.

  • Use of facilities I would like to give a present to a performer. Can you hold it for me?

    Depending on the contents of the items, we may not be able to accept them. 
    Please be sure to contact us in advance by phone.  When delivering the items, please specify the "date of use, name of the meeting, and venue.

  • Photographing and filming Can I use the facility for “cosplay” photos, or commemorative photos of children's Shichi-Go-San ritual or Coming of Age ceremonies? 

    Photography of people or objects for personal use other than commercial photography is prohibited.

  • Photographing and filming Can I take pre-wedding photos?

    This offer is only available to those who will be holding their wedding ceremony at Myonichikan. For more information, please contact the Myonichikan Wedding Desk at 03-5952-8877.

Lectures open to public

  • Lectures open to public Is it possible to attend an open lecture even without having graduated from Myonihcikan?

    Open lectures are open to everyone.

  • Lectures open to public Is there a joining fee or annual fee? 

    Only tuition and materials are charged.  There are no other charges.

  • Lectures open to public If I continue attending lectures, can I apply on a priority basis?

    All applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from the date of application.

  • Lectures open to public Can I participate on the day?

    Advance registration is required, so participation on the day is not possible. 

Myonichikan Wedding 

  • Wedding  Are there changing rooms for attendees?

    There are no permanent changing rooms, but it may be possible to change in the waiting room. For more information, please contact the Myonichikan Wedding Desk at 03-5952-8877.

  • Wedding  Can I send a congratulatory telegram?

    Please arrange for it to arrive at Jiyū Gakuen Myonichikan by the day before the wedding. 

Barrier-Free Accessibility 

  • Barrier-Free  Can I enter the building in a wheelchair?

    Ramps will be provided to cover the steps leading up to the main building's hall and at the entrance to the auditorium.  We recommend that you come with a companion who can provide assistance.  
     A commercial elevator accesses the cafeteria. There are some dates when the elevator is unavailable for this use, so if you would like to visit the cafeteria, please be sure to contact us in advance. 

  • Barrier-Free Are there multi-purpose toilets?

    Located outside the JM Shop.  Wheelchair accessible and equipped with a diaper changing sheet.
