01|The Beauty of Light and Shadow in Geometric Patterns
On the occasion of the renewal of our website, we would like to present a seasonal update of the Myonichikan.
Which do you prefer, the summer or winter view of the Myonichiikan?
It seems that people prefer the image of summer with its cherry leaves, green grass, and greenish-blue roof, but I would like to recommend the winter version, when the sun is low in the sky.
The sunlight coming in through the windows and the shadows created by the geometric patterns of the fittings.
The soft sunlight creates patterns on the floor, and at the same time the waxed and polished floor reflects the light and illuminates the walls, brightening the entire room, which is always dimly lit.
You can enjoy the change in softness of the sunlight during the day: crisp in the morning and lonely in the evening.
The entranceway designed by Wright and Endo is dark, low, and narrow when you enter the building, but it is bright, high, and wide when you enter the rooms beyond.
The addition of the winter sunlight, as mentioned earlier, doubles the appeal of the space.
I can't help but feel that the world of Junichiro Tanizaki's “In Praise of Shadows” exists here.
You may have trouble hearing this kind of story at this time of year as we head into spring.
If you feel this way, please visit the Myonichikan in spring, summer, fall, and winter, morning, noon, and evening, and see the various faces of the Myonichikan. Only you will be able to see the unique appearance of the Myonichikan at that time.
